It can be off either way, and is only an estimate. Because not everyone ovulates the same time of the month, it varies. My midwife was able to tell I was about six weeks along just by doing an internal exam to check the size of my uterus. I also had an early ultrasound and it measured exactly what *I* thought my dates should be, not what the doctor told me, which was four days off.

When i got my first positive PG test, i did the same thing and came up with 7 weeks. When I went to the doctor 2 days later, they did a sono, and it showed I was actually 6 weeks… Which according to that calcualtor, the first day of my last period was Nov 1st, when it was really October 24th… go figure! They are just to give an idea. The doctor can definitely tell due dates better by using the ultrasound to measure the baby and determine it’s gestational age.
