Central Jersey cops recover after layoffs

A $1.6 million COPS grant allowed New Brunswick to hire DeFalco and four of the other former Franklin police officers in February. The department also has used the grant to hire one of three Hillsborough police officers laid off in early May. The eight former Franklin officers have been picked up in New Brunswick, Raritan Borough, Edison and North Brunswick. But Franklin police officer Mark Rossman, president of the local PBA chapter, said the department’s rank-and-file officers still are feeling the pain and suffering from low morale. The force has 99 officers, he said, down about 20 percent from its peak of 125 three years ago.

The town has public school students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade that use Robert Morris School. For grades 9-12, public school students attend Bound Brook High School. The school system building area has been expanded in recent years. An impressive regional Ukrainian Orthodox Church and historical Dutch Reformed Church are both located on Main Street.

The main downtown area in South Bound Brook New Jersey , also known as Main Street, has been refurbished with new sidewalks, light poles, colonial signage and a number of newly renovated chain stores. Some stores had to be removed before the new condo and townhouse redevelopment could begin. New town homes and condos were built on the GAF Manufacturing site that provides an updated look to the town. The Ukrainian Credit Union building stands in tact and was never removed.

Joe’s Deli and Meat Market is still here but has moved to the other side of the street. I especially look forward to my visits at Joe’s Meat Market, as do most residents. Joe’s family owned business has gone above and beyond the status quo. You must go to Joe’s.

South Bound Brook , New Jersey is still expanding as evidenced by a new 55-and-older condominium development in the process of being finished that is located on Elizabeth Ave in the west-central part of town.

The main attraction in South Bound Brook is the Delaware and Raritan Canal that permits light boating to hiking, biking and fishing . Centrally located transportation that includes the railroad and bus service is close by.
