HP Reveals TouchPad Prices, Availability

HP didn't disclose details of the AT&T-equipped version, declining to mention price or service plans, specify whether it would be equipped with 3G or 4G service, or indicate whether two-way video chat would be enabled over cellular data as well as Wi-Fi.

The Wi-Fi version of the industry's first WebOS-based tablet will be available July 1 through U.S. retailers, commercial resellers and direct from HP in 16GB and 32GB versions at estimated street prices of $499 and $599, respectively. U.S. preorders begin June 19.

U.S. retailers and commercial resellers will include Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, Walmart, Sam's Club, OfficeMax, Amazon.com, Fry's, Microcenter, other local and regional retailers, and HP's online stores.

The 1.6-pound device, announced without pricing earlier this year, features Web OS 3.0, 9.7-inch XGA capacitive, multitouch screen with 1,024 by 768 18-bit color display, Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core 1.2GHz processor, beta of Adobe Flash Player 10.3, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, assisted GPS on the cellular-equipped version, integrated front-facing 1.3-megapixel webcam for video chats, stereo speakers with Beats Audio technology, gyroscope, accelerometer and compass.

Other features include stereo Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, Microsoft Exchange email with Microsoft Direct Push Technology, POP3/IMAP email, and cellular-based SMS, MMS and IM over cellular. A rear-facing camera wasn't included in the company's spec list.

The TouchPad comes out of the box with such productivity apps as Google Docs or Box.net, ability to print wirelessly to compatible networked HP printers.

The device is 9.45 by 7.48 by 0.54 inches in size with rechargeable 6300 mAh battery.

Optional accessories include the Touchstone charging dock, TouchPad wireless keyboard and TouchPad case.

A few days after the U.S. launch, the tablet will be available in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Germany followed in mid-July in Canada. Availability is planned later in the year for Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore.

Is this a good gaming pc ?

ok, well i’m looking into buying a gaming pc. The game i’m interested in playing are WOW, Call of Duty 4, and most other games that are modern.

This is the gaming pc i have been looking at, i just would like to know if its appropriate for the games and if all of the features of it are good. And also what i will need to upgrade, if i need to. This computer costs 1130 dollars australian. Well for people that kno what you are talking about it 10 points will be available for whoever can tell me what i want to know. Thankyou

For your purposes the graphics card is fine. You’re asking about WoW and Call of Duty 4 not Crysis. The GeForce 8600gt is not the best Nvidia, but is is still plenty good enough for those games, better than just about any ATI card. The only real problem with it is that it isn’t compatible with Direct X 10, which will be the standard for new pc games in 2 or 3 years. For now pretty much all the games still work with DX9, including COD4 and WoW.

There are very few games that are intensive on their memory use. Newer pc’s have to use 2gb of RAM nowadays mostly because of Windows Vista. If you run your game without a bunch of other applications running, you will have no need for more than 2gb of RAM.

A better idea than getting more RAM would be getting faster RAM. The specs suggest the speed of that DDR2 is 800 mHz: good but not great. It would be better to get 2 gb of RAM clocked at over 1 gHz. That would improve the performance of 3d game engines. Adding more RAM overall won’t. Just don’t play the game with 10 other games or big programs running at the same time, and you’ll have no troubles at all. Especially if you choose Windows XP instead of Windows Vista.

Now the monitor is too small. Why do so many people pay top dollar to get the best computer, then get a little rinky-dink 19″ monitor to play the games on? It’s better to kick back and relax looking at the games on a big screen, than to spend hours at a time hunched over a keyboard staring at a little screen. Hurts your back and neck.
