New Discover Pass needed to get to state parks, DNR lands starting July 1

That's when the Discover Pass - think of it as a parking permit - will be required for vehicle access to state recreation lands or water-access sites managed by Washington State Parks, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Washington state Department of Natural Resources.

The pass went on sale June 15. The state is working out some of the kinks, but here's what you need to know.

Where would I need to have a Discover Pass?

State parks, wildlife areas, some campgrounds, trails, trailheads, natural and wildlife areas, boat launches and heritage sites - wherever you would need to park your vehicle on state recreation lands.

There are some exemptions, such as for holders of certain types of hunting and fishing licenses. Learn more online at discoverpass.wa.gov .

Where are the passes required in Whatcom and Skagit counties?

Birch Bay, Larrabee and Peace Arch state parks.

DNR sites like Blanchard Forest, including Samish Overlook and the trail to Lily and Lizard lakes.

Fish and wildlife sites include Lake Terrell and Tennant Lake. (For Tennant Lake, the pass is required for the access that is off Slater Road but not the sections that are in Whatcom County parkland, which include the interpretive center, the boardwalk and the Fragrance Garden.)

Crews will put up signs to remind users. Get a complete list for this region and the rest of the state by going online to discoverpass.wa.gov .

Alex Moularas, ranger at Larrabee State Park, said people might be surprised at some of the places where a Discover Pass is required.

He said there are 2,683 acres of Larrabee on either side of Chuckanut Drive, so it would be required, for example, to park at the Fragrance Lake trailheads and along the shoulder of Chuckanut, where people would head down to Clayton Beach.

That's because their vehicle is in state park land, he said.

How much does it cost?

An annual pass costs $30 per vehicle, and a day pass is $10 per vehicle - not including dealer and transaction fees. Those fees, for example, bump up the cost of an annual Discover Pass to $35.

Can I transfer the pass from vehicle to vehicle?

No. In fact, you're required to include the license plate number of a vehicle on the pass, which must be displayed in your car's front windshield. Motorcyclists will take the pass with them.

Plexiglass cleaner/protectorant? - RangerForums.net - Polaris ...

I have a ranger with a "plastic" windshield and no wipers. Was on a 3 hour ride in the rain and it was difficult to see to say the least. A friend suggested "Rain X" to help water bead off until I get wipers. I read the Rain X label and it says not to use on Plastic. Anyone have experience with Rain X on a plexiglass windshield? Is there a product for plastic windshields? Any suggestions would be welcome! Thanks!! 1st clean the windshield with Windex or what ever,wipe it dry, when completly dry rub bar soap all over it. Then wet the windshield with plain water and gently wipe it off. If you want to see how this works at home, do the same with your bathroom mirror and see what happens when you take a hot shower....clean dry glass! I use this method at work. I wear plexiglass safety glasses. They never fog up and when I go outside during rain,they stay clear!
