Turning back the hands of time, for the next few weeks Saturday Hustle will be looking at a decade of songs that ruled the summer — both on the charts and in the streets.
Today: the year 2000.
Aaliyah - Try Again
2000 was the year that the beautiful R&B songstress's career peaked. Not only was she dominating the charts, but she also made her movie debut co-starring with Jet Li in the movie Romeo Must Die. The soundtrack for the film featured four Aaliyah songs including her big hit Try Again which was the first and only number one pop single of her career. "If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again..." Tragically, Aaliyah would die one year later in a fiery plane crash
Nelly - Country Grammar
"I'm goin down down baby, yo' street in a Range Rover (c'mon)
Street sweeper baby, cocked ready to let it go..."
If nobody knew who Nelly was before, they definitely knew him after he released Country Grammar. This was the first single from the album of the same name that became a global hit, launching Nelly's career into the stratosphere.
Faith Hill - Breathe
Breathe is Faith Hill's most successful single to date. This song spent four weeks at number one on the Billboard Country charts, making it her seventh number one. It also peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2000, having been only blocked by Carlos Santana's Maria Maria. The track was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Female Country Vocal Performance -- she took home the award for the latter.

Carlos Santana is without a doubt one of the most successful Latino artistes of all time. His track Maria Maria featuring The Product G&B took the airwaves by storm around the world. It spent 10 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy for best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
Joe - I Wanna Know
The R&B singer may have started his career as early as the early 90s, but Joe didn't enjoy success until he released the album My Name is Joe in 2000. The lead single from that album I Wanna Know, which also became a hit, reached the top 40 in the UK and Australia — propelling the album to eventually sell over three million copies.
