Until now liposuction - surgically suctioning out excess fat - has been the most popular method for fat removal, but it has some major drawbacks. "We now have an extremely promising non-invasive body sculpting procedure called CoolSculpting that can deliver results, especially for muffin tops, love handles, and back fat" explains Dr. Brezel. CoolSculpting by Zeltiq is a non-invasive, non-surgical FDA approved treatment for the non-invasive removal of fat.
A CoolSculpting session involves reclining for less than one hour while a non-invasive applicator delivers a precisely controlled cooling to a chosen area. This process, which does not require any anesthesia, is called Cryolipolysis. As a result of the freezing, the fat will crystallize thereby damaging the fat cells. In turn, the damaged fat cells will send off a signal to the body causing the fat cells and fat to be cleared through a safe natural biologic process over the next two to four months. According to Dr. Brezel, the treatment can be done safely because the fat freezes before the neighboring tissue. The Zeltiq device precisely controls the freezing process allowing one to avoid freezing the adjacent tissue.
An expert in non-invasive fat removal procedures, Dr. Brezel says he favors CoolSculpting because it removes stubborn localized fat from the stomach, love handles, back, and other areas without the need for anesthesia, surgery, injections or downtime. Cost ranges from about $750 to $1500 depending on the area treated.
