Police looking for man who fled traffic stop on foot
Kanawha Sheriff's deputies are on the lookout for a suspect who fled on foot after police stopped his car Tuesday afternoon.
Lt. B.C. Robbins was in North Charleston on Tuesday when he saw a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier traveling west "in a suspicious manner," according to the sheriff's department.
Robbins checked the car's license plate, found it was stolen and tried to pull the vehicle over, according to the sheriff's department. The driver would not stop, however, and headed toward Cross Lanes, the sheriff's department reported. Additional deputies responded to the area and popped the Cavalier's tires with spike strips on Woodrum's Lane, according to the department.
The car still did not stop and doubled back to West Washington Street, by this time driving on the rims, before crashing near Bush Street, according to the release. The driver fled on foot and evaded arrest, but Robbins identified him as Timothy Carper, 42, of Charleston.
Deputies found "numerous items used to manufacture methamphetamines" in Carper's car Tuesday, according to the sheriff's department. Robbins filed a warrant for Carper for attempting to operate a clandestine meth lab and additional charges for traffic offense will be filed later, a department spokesman stated.
Anyone with information on Carper's whereabouts is asked to contact the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office at 304-357-01693.
