RTA boosts marine transport cooperation with Atlantis Hotel

The Public Transport Agency, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), being the competent RTA entity responsible for operating the marine transport sector in Dubai, is seeking to broaden & enhance the tourist aspects of the sector, namely the Water Taxi and Ferry Dubai, in keeping with the development drive seen in the UAE in general and Dubai Emirate in particular, especially in the tourist field which is one of the key vibrant sectors in the Emirate. To boost the cooperation with the leading world-class tourist organizations, RTA Public Transport Agency has recently signed a strategic agreement in a form of a Memorandum of Association with the Atlantis Hotel in which the two parties have agreed to broaden the scope & effectiveness of the joint cooperation through operating scheduled water taxi trips to serve the residents of Atlantis Hotel as well as its tourists hailing from various corners of the globe. "We are excited to see the RTA playing a vital role in promoting tourism and contributing to the development of tourism movement in general and the marine tourist transport in particular. The Agreement underlies our belief in the importance of supporting the tourist sector with this service; which is a key pillar of the tourist sector business and an important source of income in this regard," said Al Dossari. "Through this Agreement, Atlantis Hotel, being situated at Jumeirah Palm, will be linked to Dubai Creek; which is a first-class tourist attraction point considering its historical landmarks & diversity of markets," he continued. "RTA is always keen on coordinating all efforts aimed at translating the vision of Dubai Government into a reality, and boosting the reputable financial, service and tourist standing of the Emirate through delivering best-in-class services based on the highest global practices and forging partnerships with relevant tourist bodies such as hotels and tour operators in the Emirate of Dubai," added Al Dossari. He stated that Public Transport Agency would be fully ready to cooperate with Atlantis Hotel, not only in boosting the tourist marine transport, but also in providing all the requisite tools of encouraging residents & visitors of the hotel to use other mass transit systems such as public buses & the metro to ease their mobility in the Emirate; which would make their visit to the Emirate a memorable experience. Nick Poynton and I visited Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai last week while in town for Cityscape Dubai 2009. In case you missed the news the Atlantis had a fire a few weeks before it opened. The fire was on the domed roof of the lobby and thankfully did not proceed to the inner dome and the interior finishes. The concrete structure kept the interior free from the fire although there was extensive water damage from the fire suppression system. The hotel had clean up operations in place the same afternoon and was able to have the lobby back in pristine condition for the main opening. There was extensive damage to the outer external dome and work on that is to be completed later next week.
